What’s the point? I confess that I have recently complained about having to stream worship services, asking, “What’s the point?” I usually try to have some special music planned for Holy Week and the Easter Sunday services. But now I can’t have a special choir and, because of the way our streaming software is set up, I can’t do much of any special music. So, my sinful heart led me to ask that question. What’s the point? Well, Jesus is the point! While the special music and the greeting of brothers and sisters in person is a nice aspect of our worship, that isn’t the point, is it? Satan would want us all to have that same defeated attitude and simply stop worshiping because we can’t meet in person. But we can glorify our Risen Savior whether we are at home or in a church building. And the Word that is preached is just as effective in a live streamed service. Don’t tell Satan, but the streaming of services has the potential to reach far more hearts than the services without that technology! So, we worship from our homes, and pray that the circumstances that caused this will have the same effect that Satan’s persecution of the early church had. The Gospel was proclaimed, and the church grew faster than at any other time in history. As we “shelter in place,” let us remember to shelter in Jesus. He is our hiding place. Praise Him for the greatest song of deliverance: peace with our God and an eternal life with Him.
