Sisters in Christ
Sisters in Christ. Three words that seem so simple, yet they are so powerful! As women of faith, we share a very special bond and we call ourselves sisters. The next two words, however, are even more significant. “In Christ.” When you see this phrase in the New Testament, it is often a translation of the Greek words “en Christo Jesu." For example: “If anyone is in Christ (en Christo Jesu), he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come.” When we are “en Christo Jesu,” we are a new creation. Romans says, “Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ (en Christo Jesu.) New creation, right? We are redeemed, forgiven, loved, declared not guilty. Such a contrast from the “old” creation: rebellious, sinful, lost and condemned, separated from God. We are brand new! We are en Christo Jesu! Those three words literally mean “in the sphere of Christ.” We are HIS. We are in his sphere, or bubble. He is our protector, caretaker, shepherd, comforter. We can walk confidently through this world and all its troubles, knowing that we are in Christ. We are in his bubble!
As Sisters in Christ, we want to encourage each other in our walk of faith. And we want to share this good news with other people in our lives. So, we gather together around the Word, year after year, so that we may be encouraged and strengthened in our faith. And propelled by that Word, we then encourage and support each other in our daily walks, lifting each other up and praising our God together as Sisters in Christ.
